These are all so talented. The stand-out for me is Sweet As and its easy to see why this one was the people’s choice. It is the only one about real people and in a very clever way includes a wide range of people, ages and sentiments. For a competition about NZ this is also the only one that showcases many different views of NZ and leaves me with the idea that I could actually do that myself without hiking gear and having to know god or be at the mercy of giants – all a bit scary. The one with the gurgling dying man in the background I had to stop – sorry just too too much information.

The poor judges have a hard job. Each one of these talented movies has its own grab I love Dave’s jubilant celebration – very clever short movie, but it’s all about him and isn’t the competition about NZ. Love the God BMX, but it is a bit sacrilegious and the giant one is a bit like an advertisement I’ve seen.

Aya your submission was light, fun and captured the essence of New Zealand …a world in one country… The other submissions had me hanging and wondering, possibly with the one exception of ” Lake Dave ” . While the implied message here is, there is still much to be discovered it is ultimately two-dimensional appealing mostly to the hiker/explorer, but New Zealand is so much more. The “God element” films, either revisiting or creating New Zealand while in one instance well made, left me cold and slightly uncomfortable. And talking about uncomfortable, the connect between heaven and New Zealand while conceptually clever had me reaching for the stop button like Dr. Strangelove for his throat.
Kudos to Tourism New Zealand for the idea and encouraging such wonderful talent, ultimately New Zealand will be the beneficary of that I am sure.

Jorg, while I’m sure your comments are valid, why is it that when I click through to your link, I get a reference to finalist (and Sweet As director) Aya Tanimura?

Shouldn’t you declare your interest when making your comment?

And Adele, is that same for you?
