FLASHBACK: FINALIST BLOG – KRISTI 02/10/10

So it was bound to happen, with all the blog posts flying back and forth – one of our daily chronicles slipped through the cracks. But in the interest of giving you the full experience, let’s flash back ten whole days to Kristi’s edit …

I finished editing my film. I love editing so I really enjoyed the last few days. My editor, Paul, and I worked extremely well together. We have a similar style of editing and sensibility. After three days of hard but fun work, we were both very happy with the results.

Today I moved on to sound and grading. In the morning I met with the sound team (Dave Whitehead is composing some wonderful music with Maori sounds for my film, Tim Prebble is putting together some great war sound effects, and Chris Todd is working on perfecting my voice-over audio) and then got to watch some of the foley work. It was fun to watch, and even just footsteps really add a great deal of depth to the film. I then spent the afternoon grading. I haven’t been getting much sleep so it was kind of hard to sit in a dark room and stare at color, trying to decide if “A” or “B” looks better. Having said that, I know grading is very important and it is great to see the rich colors come out in my film.

I am also enjoying staying in Wellington during post. We can see the harbour from our window. One evening I took a quick walk down to the waterfront and a pod of dolphins happened to be swimming around the bay. They were beautiful. Sailboats and row teams can often be seen in the bay as well.

Only two days left before my film is completed. I will be glad to see it finalized, but I am also sad that this adventure is coming to an end.
